The primary responsibility of the Engraving/Mailing Department Assistant is to be a visible and proactive force in making sure that all department projects meet or exceed customer expectations. This position provides back up to the manager and is expected to be familiar and competent with all tasks, policies, procedures and practices within the department. The Assistant will spend the majority of their time in the mailing and engraving areas working with and directing the efforts of both staff and clients.  



  Production Direct Tasks

  • Complete all tasks as assigned by manager related to the department.
  • These tasks may include, but are not limited to mailing department duties, operating the engraving and sublimation equipment, assembly, scheduling, daily cleanup and completion of all associated paperwork and documentation.
  • May be assigned to other areas/departments as needed.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for all tools, equipment, materials and company property used in the course of work.
  • Have sufficient skills to use existing software programs in the production process.
  • Make daily mail pick up & delivery as needed.


  Quality Control

  • Review the work of other staff and clients to assure the quality meets our customer's standards.
  • Correct deficient products.
  • Provide reports to the Department Manager as requested related to the number of deficient products and where the errors originated.
  • Keep clear and accurate Quality Control documentation for each product that is



  • Learn and stay current on the various tasks assigned to production to assure sufficient skill and knowledge to fill in as necessary.
  • Provide direct training to Production Technicians and clients on the proper completion of production tasks.
  • Implement a regular training schedule to facilitate clients' access to work in the two departments.
  • Review the work and assess the skill development of individuals being trained, and provide supplemental or extended training as needed.
  • Be the lead "Go To" person in assigning responsibilities, identifying needs and scheduling training.



  • Proactively support all PBC safety programs, procedures and policies.
  • Assist clients and others, when needed, during safety evacuations.




Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or acceptable substitute.
  • Six months experience in a production facility or in a similar manufacturing environment.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Licenses

  • Excellent customer service skills in order to effectively interact professionally with others, including customers and clients.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
  • Possess and maintain a current Oregon Driver's License and driving record sufficient to be insured to drive Pearl Buck Center vehicles.
  • Ability to pass a DHS background check.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy in general math.
  • Reading and writing skills sufficient to interpret complex manuals which describe the operation of various machines.
  • Ability to lead work teams to accomplish tasks and meet production goals.




Environment and Hazards

  • Warehouse environment.
  • Possible limited exposure to manufacturing and/or cleaning chemicals.
  • Possible driving of personal or company vehicles.


Physical and Mental Effort

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. periodically and up to 35 lbs. many times throughout a day.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods
  • Must be mentally alert to avoid accidents, to program and operate machines, and to communicate effectively with others.
